BuddyUp. Whatever moves you.

YOUR INFORMATION. YOUR CHOICE.

Privacy policy

Good company starts with trust. Here’s what happens to your information when you join the BuddyUp waitlist.

Last updated:

1. Who we are

BuddyUp is a proposed service for finding people to share activities with. This website collects waitlist signups and optional feedback to help decide whether and where to develop it. It is not the BuddyUp app.

The organisation responsible for your information is BuddyUp, based in Canada. Where data protection laws use this term, this organisation is the “controller”.

Privacy contact: discoverbuddyup@gmail.com.

2. What we collect

  • Email address: the only required signup information.
  • Optional answers: activities you would like company for, what usually stops you, and your postal or ZIP code. We do not ask for your full address or precise device location.
  • Subscription records: your subscriber identifier, subscription status, and waitlist and interest-group memberships in Flodesk.
  • Technical information: hosting and email providers may process IP addresses, browser information, request times, delivery records, and security logs when providing their services.
  • Correspondence: your contact details and messages if you contact us.

Please do not send sensitive information or details about other people. Choosing “Parent walks with little ones” does not require any information about a child.

3. How we use your information

We use your email to maintain the waitlist and send BuddyUp development and launch updates. Optional answers help us understand interests, barriers to participation, and demand by area, and choose relevant BuddyUp updates.

Checkbox selections add your subscriber record to matching Flodesk interest groups. Repeat submissions add memberships without automatically removing earlier selections. You can ask us to correct or remove your answers.

We seek your consent to use your email for waitlist updates and your optional answers for the purposes described here. You can withdraw consent by unsubscribing or contacting us. We also process information needed to operate and protect the website and handle your requests, with consent where required. We may process or disclose information without consent only where applicable law permits or requires it.

The waitlist does not sell your information or use it for cross-site behavioural advertising. We do not use your answers to make automated decisions with legal or similarly significant effects.

4. Who processes your information

We use Flodesk to store subscribers, organise interests, and send emails. Our hosting provider processes information needed to deliver and protect the website. Information is available to people and providers who need it for these purposes, and may be disclosed when required by law.

Flodesk and its providers may process information in the United States and other countries. Its Data Processing Addendum describes processing responsibilities and international-transfer safeguards, including standard contractual clauses where applicable. Contact us for details of safeguards relevant to your information.

5. Cookies and email tracking

After signup, we set a necessary cookie named buddyup_waitlist. It connects optional answers to your signup and expires after one hour. It contains a signed subscriber identifier, not your email address. Blocking or deleting it may prevent answers from saving, but does not remove your signup.

When enabled, we use Google Tag Manager to manage website measurement tools. Loading it connects your browser to Google, which receives technical information such as your IP address and browser details. Depending on the tags configured and your consent choices, measurement tools may also process page visits, interactions, and cookie identifiers. Google may process this information outside Canada. See Google’s Privacy Policy.

Google analytics and advertising consent settings start as denied. This does not prevent every network request or all measurement: some Google tags can send cookieless signals. Optional tags must respect applicable consent choices. After successful saves, the website’s data layer records signup and questionnaire completion, the number of checked options, and the selected activity and barrier option identifiers for measurement through Google Tag Manager. We do not include your email address or postal code in these events. Fonts and activity images are served with the site.

Flodesk emails can include open and click tracking. Depending on the features enabled, this can record opens, link clicks, timestamps, and technical information. This is separate from website cookies. Read how Flodesk email tracking works. Blocking remote images in your email client may reduce open tracking but does not prevent all tracking. You can unsubscribe at any time.

6. How long we keep your information

We keep waitlist information and answers while they are needed to manage your subscription and assess demand for BuddyUp. We review their necessity as the project develops. If we stop pursuing the project, information no longer needed for these purposes should be deleted or anonymised, subject to legal obligations.

Unsubscribing stops marketing; it does not automatically erase your subscriber record or answers. A limited suppression record may be retained to respect your choice not to receive emails. Records needed for legal obligations or resolving requests may be kept for those purposes. You can request deletion using the contact below.

The questionnaire cookie expires after one hour. Hosting logs and provider backups follow the relevant provider’s retention arrangements.

7. Your choices and rights

You can skip every question without affecting signup. Use the unsubscribe link in a marketing email to stop those emails. To withdraw permission to use your questionnaire answers, correct information, or request deletion, contact discoverbuddyup@gmail.com.

Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to processing, or receive your information in a portable format. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that was lawful before withdrawal. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.

In Canada, applicable privacy law may give you rights to know how your information is used and disclosed, access it, request corrections, and challenge how it is handled. You can raise a concern with us at the email above. You may also contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or the relevant provincial privacy authority. The appropriate authority and process depend on the law that applies.

8. Security and children’s information

We use safeguards including server-side credentials and a signed questionnaire-session cookie. Please use the HTTPS version of the site. No website or transmission method can guarantee absolute security.

This waitlist is for people signing up on their own behalf, not for collecting information about children. If you believe a child has submitted information without appropriate permission, contact us so we can review it and arrange deletion where appropriate.

9. Changes and contact

We may update this policy as BuddyUp develops. The date above identifies the latest revision. We will provide additional notice or request consent where required for material changes. A future app will need privacy information covering its own features.
